Kuhl Unveils Dazzling Gold-Dipped Widebody Transformations for Nissan GT-R and Toyota Prius

The Tokyo Auto Salon witnessed the artistic prowess of local tuners, with Kuhl taking center stage by showcasing an impressive lineup of 18 modified vehicles. Among them, the spotlight falls on two visually captivating creations – the Toyota Prius and the Nissan GT-R – both adorned in an opulent "Elegant Gold" hue.

Let's delve into the transformed Toyota Prius, featuring a considerably more audacious version of Kuhl's existing kit. The standout element is the wide front and rear fender extensions seamlessly integrated into the overall body design. The widened stance is complemented by a sleek splitter, side sills, and a lavish rear diffuser, gracefully hovering above the ground thanks to the air suspension. Additional vents and a subtly styled rear spoiler adorn the tail. Riding on 20-inch Verz Racing VRF01R forged wheels enveloped in impressively stretched tires, this modified Prius exudes a distinctive presence.

Turning our attention to the Nissan GT-R, Kuhl continues its legacy of crafting body kits, with the latest edition tailored for the 2024 model. While it may not reach the extremes of the gold-engraved GT-R from 2016, it certainly deserves recognition for its audacious design.

The new kit incorporates redesigned bumpers inspired by the sleek lines of the 2024 Nissan GT-R. Fender extensions add an extra 30 mm (1.2 inches) of width on each side without necessitating modifications to the stock body panels. Sharp lines extend across the prominent diffuser, side skirts, and rear bumper extension, integrating air channels and canards for enhanced aerodynamics. A new bonnet featuring a large scoop, a modest spoiler on the tailgate, and four imposing tailpipes at the center complete the ensemble. The GT-R gracefully rides on Verz-Kron E04 wheels, coupled with a slammed air suspension. Inside, the cabin receives a luxurious makeover with leather upholstery and opulent gold carbon accents. While performance upgrades are unmentioned, it's anticipated that owners opting for such an extravagant body kit may well seek powertrain enhancements to match the striking aesthetics.

The Toyota Prius and Nissan GT-R share the stage with Kuhl's interpretations of the Toyota Alphard and Vellfire minivans, the Crown Crossover, and the complete Vrarva lineup, including the Suzuki Hustler-based IO. The gallery below captures the essence of these modified vehicles showcased at the 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon.

Mansory Elevates the BMW XM to a New Level of Eccentricity

Mansory, known for its distinctive approach to automotive aesthetics, has ventured into the realm of the already polarizing BMW XM, creating a unique interpretation that adds a touch of flair to both brands.

Renowned as a tuning and accessory specialist catering to high-end marques such as Porsche, Rolls-Royce, and Range Rover, Mansory has left its mark on various models, employing features like forged carbon fiber on vehicles like the Lamborghini Aventador, Bentley Continental GT, and Mercedes G-Class. While often facing criticism for its bold designs, Mansory continues to push boundaries.

The BMW XM, initially met with mixed reviews for its design, undergoes a transformation under the Mansory treatment. The tuning company introduces forged carbon fiber elements to the wheel arches, front and rear fascias, and a rear roof-mounted spoiler. Notably, the front design appears more harmonious, and the forged wheels boast a clean and straightforward Y-spoke design.

The hood receives a substantial forged carbon fiber section extending from the nose to the windshield, while the carbon side skirt panels feature a more upward slope compared to the standard XM versions. Mansory emphasizes the customizable interior, although no visual representations are provided in this showcase.

A notable departure from the original BMW design is the removal of the BMW badging from the rear window, which paid homage to the classic BMW M1. This absence of visible BMW logos on the entire vehicle adds an extra layer of distinction. However, opinions may differ, with some seeing it as a potential standout while others perceive it as blending in, perhaps even more so than the stock XM and XM Label models.

Mansory's take on the BMW XM reflects its unique approach to automotive design, turning heads and sparking conversations about the boundaries of creativity in the automotive world.

2024 Toyota GR Yaris Enhancements: 8-Speed Auto, Increased Power, and Rally-Inspired Cabin

The much-anticipated updated Toyota GR Yaris has finally made its debut at the Tokyo Auto Salon, surprising enthusiasts with not only a newly available automatic transmission but also a range of unexpected exterior and interior changes.

The headline feature is undoubtedly the introduction of an eight-speed automatic transmission. Similar to Hyundai's approach with the i30 N, the GR Yaris initially hit the market exclusively with a six-speed manual gearbox, but Toyota has responded to demand by adding an optional eight-speed automatic to the lineup. Unlike Hyundai's dual-clutch system, Toyota opted for a new single-clutch unit named the Direct Automatic Transmission.

Equipped with the automatic transmission, the GR Yaris includes a dedicated cooler, and plastic paddle shifters are mounted behind the steering wheel for a sporty touch. Although the automatic transmission adds 40 lbs (18 kg) to the GR Yaris, it is expected to enhance the car's acceleration capabilities. The true measure of its driving enjoyment in comparison to the six-speed manual will only be known after getting behind the wheel.

Toyota didn't stop there; the 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine of the GR Yaris received a series of modifications. The automaker increased the direct injection pressure, incorporated a new intake air pressure sensor, introduced lightweight pistons, and added a different intake air pressure sensor. The Japanese models now boast 224 kW at 6,500 rpm and 400 Nm (of torque between 3,250 and 4,600 rpm, showcasing substantial improvements over the original 200 kW and 370 Nm .

The exterior design of the GR Yaris received thoughtful updates. A new bumper with distinctive air intakes graces the front end, while the rear features different LED taillights with an integrated light bar—a common trend in modern cars.

Inside, although the GR Yaris was already well-appointed, Toyota introduced a refreshed interior. The standout change is the new driver-focused dashboard panel housing the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster also found in the GR Corolla. The infotainment display has been repositioned and tilted 15 degrees towards the driver. Inspired by rally design, Toyota moved the hazard light and start/stop switch to be easily accessible when wearing a seat harness. Additionally, the driver's seat now sits 25 mm (1 inch) lower than before, enhancing the car's sporty feel.

These updates make the 2024 Toyota GR Yaris an even more compelling and versatile hot hatch, catering to a broader range of enthusiasts with its improved transmission options, increased power, and rally-inspired cabin design.

Limited Edition Lexus RZ450e F Sport Performance Unleashes Aerodynamic Excellence, Limited to 100 Units

Lexus has officially revealed the production version of the RZ Sport Concept showcased at last year's Tokyo Auto Salon. Named the RZ450e F Sport Performance, this exclusive model is set to hit the market in March, with only 100 units available.

Staying true to the concept's radical design, the production model mirrors its predecessor, presenting a look more reminiscent of aftermarket customizations than a conventional Lexus vehicle. The notable modifications commence with a redesigned front fascia featuring a carbon fiber splitter adorned in blue paint, accompanied by a substantial carbon panel beneath the headlights.

Distinguishing itself from other RZ models, the hood adopts a gloss black finish with dual carbon fiber air outlets, adding a functional and visually appealing touch. Extensive adjustments continue on the sides, showcasing flared arches at both ends, complete with aerodynamic winglets crafted from carbon fiber. The 21-inch Enkei aluminum wheels, finished in matte black, provide a touch of elegance compared to the concept's wheels.

Lexus has spared no expense, incorporating a carbon fiber roof for the RZ450e F Sport Performance. The sides of the roof receive a black coat with a striking blue accent. The rear end is where the drama unfolds, featuring fixed carbon fiber wings reminiscent of high-performance SEMA builds. Complementing the aerodynamic enhancements are a carbon fiber lip spoiler and a black-clad rear bumper with an integrated carbon fiber diffuser.

Inside the cabin, special touches abound. The seats boast a new ultra suede material with contrasting black and blue stitching, accompanied by a synthetic leather steering wheel. The instrument panel incorporates blue accents, and the vehicle proudly displays F Sport Performance scuff plates and aluminum sports pedals.

Under the hood, the RZ450e F Sport Performance retains the 71.4 kWh battery pack found in the standard model. It utilizes a 150 kW front electric motor and an 80 kW rear electric motor. Priced at 11,800,000 yen in Japan, this limited edition Lexus exemplifies aerodynamic excellence, combining performance and exclusivity for discerning enthusiasts.

Available Now: 2023 Mercedes-AMG ONE Hits the Market, Amidst Delays in Deliveries

Purchased in 2020, faced delays in 2021, and again in 2021, the eagerly awaited 2023 Mercedes-AMG ONE is now on sale, despite many customers still awaiting their deliveries. Although officially listed for sale since the end of the previous year, we refrained from disrupting the chronological flow of events. Rest assured, the hypercar remains available for purchase this year.

Introduced as the Project ONE in 2017, this aerodynamically designed masterpiece by Mercedes took the automotive world by storm. Featuring active aerodynamics and Formula 1-inspired technology, the model quickly sold out before the production version was even revealed.

In a surprising turn of events, Mercedes CEO Ola Kallenius admitted regret over the development process in the spring of 2023, citing the challenges of incorporating a Formula 1 engine into a street-legal vehicle. Despite the setbacks, the long-anticipated model finally began deliveries.

The Mercedes-AMG ONE boasts a sophisticated system derived from the Mercedes-AMG Petronas racing cars, particularly the F1 W06 racing car from the 2015 season, which powered Lewis Hamilton to his third Drivers’ Championship. However, the transition from Formula 1 to a street-legal vehicle proved to be a formidable task for the engineering team.

The 1.6-liter V6 turbocharged engine, developed at the Formula 1 team's factory in Brackley, operates alongside four electric motors, generating over 1,000 horsepower. Challenges during development included addressing excessive engine noise and adapting the KERS energy recovery system for street use.

Initially delayed to the fall of 2021, the production faced subsequent delays, with the first delivery occurring in January 2023, among the 275 units scheduled for production. Despite the challenges, the delivered model impresses with 1,049 horsepower, but torque remains unmeasured due to the intricacies of the drivetrain.

Powered by a seven-speed, dual-clutch automated manual transmission, the Mercedes-AMG ONE accelerates from 0 to 100 kph in 2.9 seconds, reaching a top speed of 352 kph. Riding on specially designed wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires, it offers exceptional performance.

Notably, customers who reserved the hypercar were initially restricted from selling it for an undisclosed period post-delivery. However, one owner is already selling their example. Though pricing details are undisclosed, the initial price tag was 2.75 million euros, reflecting its exclusive status.

Importantly, the Mercedes-AMG ONE is not street-legal in the US, as modifications for compliance would compromise its performance. Customers can import it under the 'show and display' law, limited to 2,500 miles per year.

For sale at a dealership in Dubai, this exclusive hypercar, likely the first delivered in January 2023, showcases a distinctive black exterior with Petronas green accents. The cabin features carbon fiber, alcantara, and leather with contrasting stitching, making it a coveted possession for one of the 275 fortunate owners of this powerhouse from Mercedes.

Honda Unveils Striking Saloon Concept Pointing Towards 2026 Production EV

Honda Unveils Striking Saloon Concept Pointing Towards 2026 Production EV

Honda has taken center stage at CES in Las Vegas, showcasing not one but two futuristic concept cars that seem plucked from the pages of a sci-fi script. Dubbed the Saloon and Space-Hub, these concepts provide a glimpse into Honda's upcoming 0 Series of electric cars.

The more visually arresting of the pair is unquestionably the Saloon, drawing inspiration from 1970s wedge-shaped concepts, reminiscent of iconic models like the Aston Martin Bulldog. What's particularly intriguing is Honda's confirmation that the Saloon will serve as the muse for the inaugural production model of the 0 Series, expected to hit the market in 2026. Initial launches are slated for North America, followed by Japan, Asia, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and South America.

Beyond its attention-grabbing design and the anticipated exclusion of gull-wing doors in the final product, the Saloon sits atop a dedicated new EV platform. Its low and wide exterior conceals a spacious interior, featuring a human-machine interface (HMI) instrument panel with sustainable materials. The Saloon introduces advancements in steer-by-wire and motion control management systems, likely to be retained in the production version.

Shifting focus to the Space-Hub concept, while no production plans have been confirmed, this minivan-like study provides insight into what Honda's 0 Series might offer consumers. This futuristic electric model boasts a vast glass roof providing panoramic views for passengers. Behind the driver, a secluded passenger compartment with opposing seat benches allows for flexible seating arrangements, fostering a "hub" connecting people to each other and the outside world.

The Space-Hub's unconventional rear-end design, marked by a rectangular lighting strip and the absence of a windshield, remains mysterious, as Honda has not disclosed further details about the study.

In addition to these concepts, Honda introduces a new "H mark" logo for its upcoming EV models, including the 0 Series. Described by the company as symbolizing "two outstretched hands," the logo reflects Honda's commitment to "expand the possibilities of mobility and continue to meet the needs of its customers."

Honda's Saloon EV Concept Nears Production-Ready Status with 90% Design Retention for 2026

Honda's Saloon EV Concept Nears Production-Ready Status with 90% Design Retention for 2026

In the realm of concept cars, Honda's Saloon EV showcased at CES embraces innovation with an acknowledgment that not all its features will transition to production. Gullwing doors and a distinctive interior, deemed impractical for everyday use, are among the elements destined for revision. However, Honda remains steadfast in ensuring that the production model, slated for release in 2026, closely mirrors the visionary Saloon concept.

As the inaugural vehicle in Honda's 0 Series EV lineup, the forward-looking Saloon embodies a commitment to efficiency, engagement, spaciousness, autonomy, and a daring design philosophy. Katsushida Okuda, Head of Honda Europe, notes that the 0 Series signifies Honda's dedication to "creating outstanding projects from zero, unconstrained by existing assumptions." Essentially, Honda is resetting the automotive compass, initiating EV development from scratch.

The Saloon's distinctive design, described by Toshinobu Minami, the concept's designer, as retaining "90 percent" of its appearance in the production version, stands as a testament to Honda's commitment to a bold design language. While comparisons have been drawn to various vehicles, including '70s wedge-shaped concept cars and the Nissan Max Out Concept, Minami clarifies that the design stems from a human-centric viewpoint, prioritizing both function and emotion.

The wedge-shaped silhouette, complemented by a flat rear end, underscores the Saloon's low-slung profile, while Honda's strategy to minimize battery size aligns with the goal of achieving lighter and more efficient 0 Series vehicles. Despite targeting a range exceeding 300 miles (483 km), Honda aims for a slim floor to optimize interior space and overall design.

Acknowledging that solid-state batteries are still on the horizon, Honda relies on advanced battery management software to enhance range and minimize degradation. Aiming for 90 percent battery capacity retention after a decade of use, the automaker showcases its commitment to longevity and performance.

While extravagant auto-show features may be trimmed down, the forward display might endure, serving a practical purpose on the road rather than merely as a showpiece. Honda explores ways to integrate the screen into real-world driving scenarios, potentially including communication with other road users—a crucial element as the brand develops its autonomous technology for 0 Series vehicles.

With the final design approved and the vehicle undergoing testing in the U.S., a comprehensive reveal or a near-production study is anticipated by 2025. Sales are scheduled to commence in North America in 2026, followed by launches in Japan, Asia, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and South America. The Honda Saloon EV Concept represents a significant stride toward a new era of electrified automotive innovation.
